THE SOCIAL UNIVERSE, I MISS YOU.

We would like to make films about things that people do to make life liveable. We want to make these films because we ourselves feel like we try to do something to make life liveable. We try to support each other. People are doing things everywhere, and they are not always visible, or something we understand or need, but they are in their own way powerful. Maybe it's your job, or an instinct.

Sometimes somebody reminds you, or you see another person doing something that makes you realise what you do is important. Perhaps that's all you try to do, but feel that it is very subtle and doesn't need pointing out, or even that it goes wrong sometimes. Nevertheless you keep trying and keep living. Sometimes it's great when you see how to do things, and learn how it is possible to do things that you could not even imagine, or you thought would be too difficult! We have a Super 8 film camera and film, and a sound recorder. The films we want to make with you will show how to do things in a practical way so other people can see how to do it.

To give you an idea of the kinds of things people do that we already know about, and perhaps why we are asking you, we have made a short list of wonderful things. Just making this kind of list makes you realise how much people do.

A person who works on a city farm.

A person that shares music.

A person that cooks for other people.

A person that looks after children.

A Masseuse.

A person that organises political meetings and actions

We would like to meet you, at a time that is convenient for you, and where it would be possible to record the thing it is that you do on film. We would also like to make a short audio recording, with you telling us about the thing you do and why it is something you can do. The film will be 3 minutes long but it might take more time than that to set it up, we estimate one hour. We can travel to you or where you want to be filmed. After filming we will have to send the film away to be processed. When it comes back, and if we are all happy with it, we would like to screen it, with the accompanying sound track of your description, which we can edit together.

The screening will be on August 28 at 3pm as part of the Whitechapel Gallery open screening. The Whitechapel is a public gallery, so any person can come to the screening, you can bring your friends and family. We will show all of the films we have made about people doing things.
