This invitation is to women video makers, any woman who has ever made a video, whether it is as an artist, something she does for her job, as a mother, any woman can send a tape to the 'and i will do' video distribution network. It is a correspondence video project, like an envoy from another city.
'and i will do anything to get girls into my bedroom' was originally the name I gave to my bedroom, when I showed work by women artists in there between 1995 and 1997. Now it is the name for an almost fully functioning video distribution network for women. It is the little sister to 'Joanie 4 Jackie' in the U.S.A dreamt up and run by Miranda July since 1995. Both Miranda and I want to see more work made by other women, in other towns and cities, and get to know about what was happening in places we are not able to necessarily go to. We decided in March 2001, that we should make an exchange. Miranda gets to see more video's by women in the U.S.A but not so many in Europe. Maybe because of the cost of posting and transferring formats from NTSC to PAL.
I know a lot of women that make video work here in the UK, and some other European countries but I rarely get to see them. I love the fact that video tapes are so cheap and easily copied. Most people have a video player at home, so it seems like a good thing that we can put our work together and send it to each other in this way.
This is our way of working things out, hopefully and lovingly. 'and I will do' like Joanie 4 Jackie is open to any women or girl, there is no selection process. Your tape will get seen by other women and girls at home, or if you or you want to organise screenings you can. A list of screenings and owners will be posted here in the 'who has seen this tape' section , that way you keep up to date with who is seeing your work.
If you can send me a good copy of your video, I will transfer it onto a vhs compilation tape, with 9 other video’s. Everybody who sends me a video gets on a tape and everybody on the tape will recieve a copy, plus the compilation tapes will be available to purchase from this site, by mail order, for £10. I am working on having these tapes available in my local video store also.
